Embers can stain the flesh
Bursting sparks
Into the night sky
Bonfire just as warm
closer it burns
Leaving charred remains
Burning embers of faded heat
Hollowed heart
Smoke rising reaching searching
Coldness as the fire is
Distinguished
Yet you feel the burn on your skin
Not wanting more
Yet the ashes linger
Eyes stinging from the haze
Of the past
Looking up
As it rains
Kissed by the raindrops
Eyes closed looking within
Hollowed heart filled
Washed away
What remains
Is the burning embers
Of that smile
As it returns from exile
